About Us

Fort Payne Housing Authority's Mission Statement: The Fort Payne Housing Authority's mission is to provide decent, safe, and inclusive housing for individuals and families. Our objective is to provide upward personal, economic, and social mobility to assist in promoting self-sufficiency. We strive to unite housing, people, and services to assist our families in building up their neighborhoods and communities.

Established in 1940, the Fort Payne Housing Authority (FPHA) provides affordable housing opportunities for residents of the City of Fort Payne, DeKalb County, the Town of Sylvania, and the Town of Valley Head in Alabama. FPHA is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, including a Resident Commissioner. Decent and safe housing is provided for eligible low-income individuals, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities through the Public Housing Program and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, previously known as the Section 8 Program. FPHA currently owns and operates 283 Public Housing units and manages 115 HCVs in the community. The housing programs at FPHA are income-based, and the eligibility guidelines are set by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).
